Nevertheless, Korean remains important in everyday places such as traditional markets, small restaurants, neighbourhood shops, and local communities.

International residents sometimes ask, “Does that mean I do not need to learn Korean at all?”
For a short visit, it may be possible to manage without much difficulty.

Understanding the language allows people to communicate more naturally with colleagues and neighbours. It also helps them appreciate Korean humour, etiquette, and cultural ideas such as jeong and nunchi at a much deeper level.

Having lived overseas for many years, I repeatedly came to realise that language is not simply a means of communication but a bridge connecting people and cultures.
In Korea, I taught university courses related to environmental impact assessment, environmental science, the use of software, and marine environmental planning. In the Philippines, I also had the opportunity to teach Korean to students. Through those Korean-language classes, I noticed something particularly interesting. Some students initially began studying Korean because of employment opportunities, K-pop, or Korean dramas. Over time, however, their interest expanded to include Korean society, values, and ways of thinking.
