Today’s younger generation has grown up in a digital environment where information is instantly available through smartphones, online news, and social media. Political discussion is therefore no longer limited to newspapers and television but takes place continuously across numerous online platforms.
While easier access to information encourages greater participation, it also allows differing opinions to spread rapidly, making political debate more visible than in previous generations.

The reality is more complex.

In my view, one of the most important qualities of a healthy democracy is the ability to discuss differences with mutual respect. While living overseas, I had the opportunity to observe different political systems and social cultures. Although democratic institutions vary from country to country, one lesson became increasingly clear to me: a healthy democracy depends not only on its institutions but also on the interest, responsibility, and participation of its citizens.
After returning to Korea, I was struck by how actively many younger people engage with social issues. I do not see politics simply as a competition for power. At its best, politics is a continuous process of working together to solve shared problems and build a better society. I believe that when younger generations participate with both critical thinking and a sense of responsibility, Korea’s democracy will continue to mature in meaningful ways.
